Service Coodination and Help In Rochester
Depaul-Avenues to Independence
There are many places that do Service Coordination Rochester. My brother gets service
coodination through Depaul. Jacob is in a program called Avenues to Independence. Jacob
service coodinator's name is Julie. Julie visits Jacob at home or at school every month.
Through Depaul Jacob gets Medicaid because of his autism. Julie does all the paperwork
for this. Julie also attends Jacob's school CSE meetings to ensure that Jacob gets the
best educational services available to Jacob. Through Depaul Jacob can get respite,
reimbursement, as well as other benefits.

Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Service Office
In order to get service coordination, you must first go through
an agency called the DDSO. Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities
Service Office (DDSO), as a unit of the New York State Office of Mental
Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, is responsible for developing
and providing comprehensive services for individuals with developmental
disabilities--mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and
other neurological impairments constituting a lifelong mental or physical
impairment that becomes apparent prior to age 22. The Finger Lakes DDSO takes
care of Monroe county. The process is long and could take months, but it is
worth it, to have that extra support for your child. The DDSO will give you a
list of agencies, and you choose 1 that will represent you.

New York State Parks
Did you know that you can get free access to all NYS Parks, if your child
has a disability. We take Jacob to Hamlin Beach all the time, and we get
free admittance, due to Jacob having autism. Jacob loves the beach.
We recieved the pass about 3 weeks, after we applied.
An Access Pass permits a resident of New York State with a permanent
disability free use of parks, historic sites and recreational facilities
operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic
Preservation and the Department of Environmental Conservation. The
passholder may have free use of facilities operated by these offices for
which there is normally a charge (for example; parking, camping, greens
fees and swimming). To qualify for an Access Pass, an applicant must be
a resident of New York State and must provide proof of disability in the
form of certification from the appropriate agency, or by verification of
disability by a physician.
For complete information on the criteria for eligibility and an
application, contact:

Possible Handicapped Parking for those with autistic children.
Jacob is autistic mod-severe. Two years ago we became very concerned about
Jacob having issues in parking lots. Jacob would try to bolt or sometimes
breaks down in the parking lot, when there is a lot of activity. We always
hold Jacobs hand, but he would always try to pull away. When we told our
concerns to Jacob's Doctor at Kirsh Developmental Center, he sent us the form
to go to the DMV all filled out. With our situation, he wanted Jacob to be safe.
Even now Jacob still tries to pulls away or breaks down in the parking lot.

Operation Child Safe
Keep your child safe. Walmart had a team of Operation Child Safe officers
at there Greece Store. They were taking pictures and finger prints. We waited
in line for about 10 minutes and mom left with 3 ID cards. We are now registered
with the NYS police. We wanted to have my autistic brother Jacob registered, because
he attempts to bolt. This was easy to do. Check out the Safe Child Website here Click Here
